The prototype is the first step to verify the feasibility of the product. It is the most direct and effective way to find out the defects, deficiencies, and drawbacks of the designed product, so as to improve the defects in a targeted manner, until the deficiencies can not be found from the individual prototype samples.

Prototypes are divided into three categories:
(1) Appearance prototype: Mainly inspect the appearance design of the product, requiring exquisite appearance, accurate color, and low requirements for internal processing.
(2) Structural Prototype: Mainly check the structural rationality of the product. The requirements for the size are relatively high, and the requirements for the appearance are relatively low. Foreign countries have particularly strict requirements on this type.
(3) Functional prototype: It is required to achieve the same appearance, structure and function as the real product. It can be understood as a finished product that is not on the market. It is the most demanding and difficult type of prototype.

1) Hand-made prototype: The main workload is done by hand.
(2) CNC prototype: its main workload is completed by CNC machine tools, and according to the different equipment used, it can be divided into laser rapid prototyping (RP, Rapid Prototyping) prototype and machining center (CNC)
Prototype A: SLA Prototype: mainly produced by laser rapid prototyping technology.
B: CNC prototype: mainly produced by machining center.
Classified by material
(1) Plastic prototypes: The raw materials are plastic, mainly for prototypes of plastic products, such as televisions, monitors, telephones, and so on.
(2) Silicone prototype: Its raw material is silicone, which is mainly used to display product design and appearance, such as cars, mobile phones, toys, handicrafts, daily necessities and so on.
(3) Metal prototypes: The raw materials are aluminum-magnesium alloys and other metal materials, mainly for high-end products, such as notebook computers, high-end single players, MP3 players, CD players, and so on.
(4) Clay prototype: its raw material is sludge, commonly known as clay sculpture prototype, which is mainly used for product appearance design and development. In the early stage of product development, the clay sculpture master uses sludge as a model according to his own imagination or pictures, and then according to the sludge model. To determine the appearance, but now the clay prototype has been replaced a lot by freeform.
